Ellerman House

Kieran Whyte is Head Chef at Ellerman House in Cape Town, a Relais & Châteaux property. A Silwood School of Cookery graduate, he trained under Peter Tempelhoff at The Greenhouse before joining Ellerman House, where he was appointed Head Chef in 2021. He now leads the hotel's culinary direction, including fine-dining experience Curate. His cooking blends classical European techniques with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients and diverse South African influences. He reimagines traditional dishes like pap, melktert, and umqombothi with refined, contemporary techniques, focusing on sustainability and terroir-driven cuisine.

Weekend breakfast at Clarke's is a must — go for the hash eggs. For a healthier option, the avocado on toast is really good here. Then there are the R35 mimosas.
Leo's is a firm favourite — I've been going since it opened and you can often find me there at least once a week. They were the original purveyors of the Gilda before everyone else.
My street food suggestion is Tomson — order everything!
The burger at Only Fools is super underrated.
