Restaurant Tomson

A compact South Cantonese street food spot on Bree Street, where chef-owner Andrew Kai brings the flavours of his childhood to Cape Town's dining scene. Tomson is the kind of place that proves big things come in small packages—minimalist decor, counter seats overlooking an open kitchen, and a menu that packs a serious punch.

The space is tiny, with a few indoor counter seats that put you right in front of the wok action, plus pavement bench seating for those who prefer to watch Bree Street buzz by. The energy is high, the service is friendly, and the wine list—featuring local Chenin—is surprisingly solid for such a small operation. Bookings via Dineplan are highly recommended, as this place fills up fast.

Tomson is by far my favourite casual dining spot. I love the tiny kitchen that just pumps out delicious food.
