Restaurant Rust en Vrede

A historic wine estate in Stellenbosch, with a title deed dating back to March 12, 1694, when the land was granted by Governor Simon van der Stel. Rust en Vrede's Cape Dutch buildings date from 1780 and now hold National Monument status, living history used on a daily basis. Proprietor Jean Engelbrecht still lives in the manor house where he grew up, and the original winery is now the estate's renowned restaurant.

The estate lies south of Stellenbosch on the lower slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, shielded from powerful winds and creating a warmer microclimate perfect for red wines. Rust en Vrede specialises in full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, all estate grown, made, and bottled. The wines have gone from strength to strength, earning recognition including Travel & Leisure's recommendation as the number one vineyard in Cape Town, praised for its rich history of more than 300 years in winemaking and its portfolio of robust reds.
