Alex Windebank
Alex was born in North London. Went to Westminster College at 16 for 3 years. Worked in ski resorts and around Europe for about 4 years. Returned to the UK and moved to the Kent Coast. Spent some time as Pastry Chef at The Sportsman. Met his wife working as a group Head Chef for the Polpo Group. Got Married and moved to Johannesburg in 2016 to open their own restaurant. They opened the original Farro in Joburg in 2018 but Covid took care of that! They survived with a box scheme and as soon as possible they started hosting pop ups around the city. Alex relocated to Cape Town in 2021. Had a 4 month residency in the City before moving to the winelands near Hermanus for 3 years. They decided to bring Farro back to the city. After renovating an old Victorian Terraced house they opened as a small 24 cover, set menu restaurant in October 2025. Farro has held an Eat Out star since 2022.
